On Saturday afternoons, usually around 3:30pm, every 3 or 4 weeks.
Where Do The Walks Start From?
All walks start and finish at the shop in Castle Donington. For our address and a map please go to our Where & When page.
How Long Do The Walks Take?
The walks are between 30-50 minutes long dependent on the number of hills and the average speed of the group.
What Is The Severity of the Walk?
As they are local to Castle Donington the walks include footpaths in open ground, through trees or bushes, tracks and tarmac pavements. There will inevitably be some uphill and downhill sections, but most of it is quite gentle.
Can I Bring My Dog?
Yes, as long as he/she is under control and on a lead where you would normally have him/her on a lead (e.g. in a field with livestock).
Can I Bring the Children?
Yes, as long as they are under supervision. Children remain your responsibility and while we give as much information as we can it remains your final decision as to whether the walk will be suitable.
Dates for the walks are advertised on the notice board in the Donington Outdoors shop entrance and published as an event on our Facebook page. Make sure you hear about the walks by Liking and Following us on Facebook (there is a link at the foot of this web page).
How Much Fuel Should I Bring?
MSR recommends 4 oz. (114ml) of liquid fuel per person per day for cooking or 8 oz. (237ml) of liquid fuel per person per day for melting snow and cooking. An extremely cold trip, like skiing in Antarctica, may require as much as 15 oz. (444ml) of liquid fuel per person per day.
How Long Will a Canister of MSR IsoPro Last?
In general, one 8 oz. canister of MSR IsoPro fuel will be sufficient to boil water for two people over four days in summer. Wind, low temperatures and longer cooking times will increase fuel consumption.
Carrying flammable fuel on passenger aircraft in carry-on or checked-in baggage is forbidden. Before transporting a MSR fuel bottle on an aircraft, safely empty all fuel from the bottle, wash inside with soapy water, rinse thoroughly, air dry, and store uncapped.
Fuel degrades when it contacts air. Store your fuel in an airtight container, such as an MSR fuel bottle.
Donington Outdoors supplies MSR and Colemans gas canisters in a range of sizes, with the standard screwtop fitting and self-sealing valve (so you can unscrew them while they still contain gas). We also sell MSR fuel bottles for safely storing liquid fuels. Please note: fuel is only available to buy in-store.
